Meet the compact LS-P4 with FLAC compatibility and Bluetooth connectivity. Experience high-resolution recording anywhere, anytime.
The pocket-sized LS-P series packs the advanced technology of Olympus’ flagship LS series linear PCM recorders into a portable size. The new LS-P4 is the first linear PCM recorder from Olympus compatible with the FLAC lossless format which provides high-resolution recording – beyond that of CD-quality audio, in compressed file sizes while maintaining the same sound quality as linear PCM. Using capable speakers or headphones, you can wirelessly playback and share your recorded audio with friends, cable-free thanks to the LS-P4’s built-in Bluetooth connectivity. The compact and stylish design in a robust metal body offers convenience and portability, so you never miss a sound.
Expand your live sound recordings
Created with on-the-go musicians in mind, the LS-P4 includes useful recording and editing functions that make it easier than ever for you to capture songs with professional, better-than-CD sound quality. Bluetooth connectivity ensures you can enjoy your recordings and music, cable-free wherever you go.
Intuitive recording functions
The recorder is also equipped with many useful and convenient functions to support your business needs.
Enjoy clear, high-quality sound playback
Use the LS-P4 as a music player to experience playback of your high-resolution audio files, including playback support for FLAC lossless format. For clear and consistent playback Noise Cancellation cuts out unwanted ambient noise, while the Voice Balancer ensures everyone’s voices are heard.
Built for ease of use
Featuring a built-in USB connector for direct PC connection without a cable, expandable microSD memory, handy recording scenes, Calendar Search, and File divide for editing long recordings – the LS-P4 was designed for ease of use.
TRESMIC three microphone system for high-quality sound recording
Capture even the most subtle sounds, as is with Olympus’ advanced TRESMIC 3 microphone system. It uses two directional 90° outward-facing microphones for a natural stereo sound, and a third omni-directional microphone in the centre that excels at picking up lower frequency bass. This microphone array delivers a wide frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz when the centre microphone is on, and 60 Hz to 20 kHz when off.
96 kHz / 24 bit, linear PCM recording quality
This model supports linear PCM recording at bit rates up to 24 bit and sampling frequencies as high as 96 kHz – far surpassing the 44.1kHz/ 16 bit of CD-quality audio. By selecting this bit rate and sampling frequency, users can make CDs of their own recordings.
Record and playback in FLAC lossless compression format
The LS-P4 is the first linear PCM recorder from Olympus compatible with the FLAC lossless compression format. FLAC is a format that allows file sizes to be compressed while maintaining the same sound quality as linear PCM. Due to the VBR (variable bit rate) encoding of FLAC, the quality is always lossless while the resulting bitrate is equal to the information in the original signal. This format is primarily used as the preferred format for high-resolution sound source distribution websites.
Manual recording level settings
The Manual Recording Level setting lets you fine-tune the recording level to match the volume of your sound source, maximising the dynamic range for high quality audio recording. This is a particularly important function when recording music. The Limiter function is effective for keeping the volume below a specific level when using the Manual setting. By checking the recording level meter on the LCD display and PEAK display indicator, you can easily adjust your recording levels.
Bluetooth compatible for an expanded range of use
Share your recordings with your friends, cable-free thanks to the LS-P4’s built-in Bluetooth connectivity. Playback recorded audio, or use the recorder to playback your music via compatible Bluetooth headphones or speakers. For Android users, the free Olympus Audio Controller BT app allows you to remotely control the recorder from your smart device.
Overdub your recordings and music to create something unique
The overdubbing function allows you to dub sound over a file while listening to it. Create an original recording using sources such as music CDs to make a unique recording in which you “perform together” with pro musicians, or add sound effects such as the bustle of the city or bird calls for subtle arrangements on top of existing data to make something original.
Normalisation – Maximised volume for easier listening
The LS-P4 includes a Normalisation function that operates within the recorder itself, without needing computer software. This function raises the volume of recorded data to its highest limit without causing distortion. So even when the recording level is too low, it can be raised to a decent level. Normally, when raising the recording level to capture quiet sounds, the resulting audio may become distorted, or when making adjustments to avoid this distortion, the recording may be too quiet. With the Normalisation function, the volume is maximised while maintaining recording quality during playback.
Fade-in / Fade-out for smooth track transition
This is the first high-resolution recorder from Olympus to feature a Fade-in / Fade-Out function. This new feature gradually increases the volume of the sound from the first second of the sound source and reduces volume over the last second. This links songs naturally when recording live sound, and helps eliminate unnatural clicking sounds to produce a smooth transition between tracks.
Trimming function – Songs trimmed to perfection
The Trimming function allows you to remove the unnecessary beginning and ending of recordings directly on the recorder – such as the time taken to ready the instrument after pushing the REC button, or the time taken to press the stop button when you’ve finished playing.
Partial erase – Remove the spaces between tracks
The Partial Erase function is useful for continuously recording several songs, and allows you to select and cut out the unwanted space between songs.
